A (xx課標全國Ⅲ,D) The Intelligent Transport team at Newcastle University have turned an electric car into a mobile laboratory named “DriveLAB” in order to understand the challenges faced by older drivers and to discover where the key stress points are. Research shows that giving up driving is one of the key reasons for a fall in health and well-being among older people, leading to them being more isolated(隔絕) and inactive. Led by Professor Phil Blythe, the Newcastle team are developing in-vehicle technologies for older drivers which they hope could help them to continue driving into later life. These include custom-made navigation(導航) tools, night vision systems and intelligent speed adaptations. Phil Blythe explains:“For many older people, particularly those living alone or in the country, driving is important for preserving their independence, giving them the freedom to get out and about without having to rely on others.” “But we all have to accept that as we get older our reactions slow down and this often results in people avoiding any potentially challenging driving conditions and losing confidence in their driving skills. The result is that people stop driving before they really need to.” Dr Amy Guo, the leading researcher on the older driver study, explains: “The DriveLAB is helping us to understand what the key stress points and difficulties are for older drivers and how we might use technology to address these problems.” “For example, most of us would expect older drivers always go slower than everyone else but surprisingly, we found that in 30mph zones they struggled to keep at a constant speed and so were more likely to break the speed limit and be at risk of getting fined. We’re looking at the benefits of systems which control their speed as a way of preventing that.” “We hope that our work will help with technological solutions(解決方案) to ensure that older drivers stay safer behind the wheel.” 1.What is the purpose of the DriveLAB? D.Organize regular physical checkups. 4.What is the best title for the text? A.A New Model Electric Car B.A Solution to Traffic Problems C.Driving Services for Elders D.Keeping Older Drivers on the Road B (xx山東青島二模,A) “Oh, my god. Are you serious?” That’s a reaction I often get when people hear the tale of my childhood. It’s a story I don’t often share. Growing up in a bad home, I learned to protect myself by not speaking up. I’ve seldom said anything about how badly I was treated and hurt as a child. I don’t talk about how my name was changed at least three times, what it was like to live in my van(箱式貨車),or how I’ve struggled with anxiety, depression, and wanting to kill myself. But I learned to start speaking up for myself. I went on to earn two graduate degrees and I will plete my Doctor’s degree this year. I’ve also bee a widely published author. So, how did I get to where I am today? What’s helped me is surrounding myself with caring, loving people. I’ve learned day-to-day skills through research, trial and error, and with the help of skilled professionals. They’ve taught me how to slow down, to breathe, to be thankful for what I’ve got. They’re the ones who make my goals possible. They have also taught me to turn my past experiences into strength—to make the negatives into positives. My hope is that sharing my story might help others to see what is possible even in the darkest times and help others to speak out. I don’t think I’m in any way special or unique. I’m a mon man, no more deserving than anyone else. But for far too long, I’ve been afraid that others think I’m damaged goods. I’ve worried about how I might be treated differently. Pain and fear teach us to be silent. It’s time for that to change. I don’t know what tomorrow might bring. But one thing I’ve learned is that if we can hold on and find help, if we find ways to get through the day and speak up, we’ll not only survive, but bee stronger than before. Our very survival can be an inspiration all on its own. And with love of my friends, I look forward to so much more than pleting my education—I look forward to the future. 5.Which might not be related to the author’s childhood? A.Depression. B.Disappointment. C.Desperation. D.Trust. 6.How did the writer get today’s success? A.With the help of his parents. B.Learning by himself. C.Holding on and finding help from others. D.Being special and talented. 7.What’s the author’s purpose of sharing his story? A.To bee stronger than before. B.To encourage others to make the most of their dark times of life. C.To bee a better publisher. D.To change the ways to speak up. 8.What can we learn from the author’s experience? A.We should overe the difficulty depending on ourselves. B.We should keep silent when meeting pain and fear. C.Managing to survive when in trouble can make us stronger. D.Our childhood life decides our future. Ⅱ.語法填空 閱讀下面短文,在空白處填入1個適當?shù)膯卧~或括號內(nèi)單詞的正確形式。 According to the data from population reports and the statistics made by the World Bank, Japanese people in xx 1 (live), on average, to 83 years old, and the country itself ranks 2 the top five nations with the longest life expectancy(預期壽命). 3 major contributor to Japan’s high life expectancy and overall health is their diet.
