(8分)根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,選擇最佳答案。 As December comes to an end, you think about the new year and all the ways you want to improve your life. But as you start to write down your hopes for the new year, you think about the last year. You excitedly write down all the changes you are going to make, but by the end of January those ideas get lost in your busy life. Heres a suggestion: Forget the too big, hard to achieve goals and just think about the small ones. “We often think that we have to do everything in big steps, even though its so hard for us to reach it, said Robert Maurer, who recently wrote the book One Small Step Can Change Your Life. “What we try to do is to begin with such a small step that we cant find any excuse not to do it.” “Kaizen”, a Japanese word, is used to mean to change behavior and attitudes. During World WarⅡ, American factory managers were able to increase productivity by trying small, continuous improvements instead of sudden changes. After the war, the idea was brought to a rebuilding Japan. It made Japan develop fast. The Japanese called it “Kaizen”, which means “improvement”. Maurer studied the idea and did some experiments with it. “Kaizen” could possibly help people succeed in doing everything. (1)Robert Maurer wrote a book to tell us ______. A . You can achieve your goals if you are not too busy. B . Robert Maurer studied “kaizen” and found it helpful. C . You cant find any excuse not to reach a big goal. D . “Kaizen” was brought to Japan during World WarⅡ. 18. (8分)閱讀理解 All in the memory… Many people complain that their memory is bad, especially as they get older. Phone numbers, names, facts we studied only a few days ago – life would be so much easier if we could remember them all effortlessly. So how can we improve our memory? Many people think that repeating things is the best way to remember them. While this undoubtedly helps short-term memory (remembering a telephone number for a few seconds, for example), psychologists (心理學(xué)家) doubt whether it ca help you to remember things for very long. The British psychologist Ec Stanford seemed to prove this point when he tested himself on five prayers (祈禱文) that he had read aloud every morning for over 25 years. He found that he could remember no more than three words of some of them! More helpful, especially for remembering numbers, is grouping the information. The following numbers would be impossible for most of us to remember: 1492178919931848. But look at them in chunks, and it becomes much easier: 1492 1789 1993 1848. So what about “memory training”? Weve all heard about people who can memorize packs of cards by heart—how is this done and can anyone learn how to do it? According to experts, there are many ways of training your memory. Many of them involve forming a mental picture of the things to be memorized. One method, which may be useful in learning foreign languages, is to create a picture in your mind connected to a word you want to remember. Another method is to invent a story that includes all the things you want to remember. In experiments, people were asked to remember up to 120 words using this skill; when tested afterwards, on average, they were able to recall 90% of them! However, not all of us are interested in learning long lists of names and numbers just for fun. For those studying large number of information, psychologists suggest that the best way to form meaningful connections is to ask yourself lots of questions as you go along. So, for example, if you were reading about a particular disease (疾病), you would ask yourself questions like: “Do people get it from water?”, “What parts of the body does it influence?” and so on. This is said to be far more effective than time spent “passively” reading and re-reading notes. (1)Which of the following is true about repeating things according to the passage? A . It helps short-term memory for sure. B . It makes remembering things interesting. C . It helps to remember things for long. D . It makes remembering prayers effortlessly. (2)The word “chunks” in Paragraph 2 probably means “______”. A . details B . turns C . groups D . lines (3)What can we infer from the passage? A . Creating a picture is useful in learning math. B . Inventing a prayer trains our memory quickly. C . Remembering long numbers is easy for people. D . Asking yourself questions activates the memory. (4)Whats the writers main purpose in writing this passage? A . To complain that his memory is bad. B . To recognize some memory problems. C . To explain some memory experiments. D . To share some ways of improving memory. 19. (8分)閱讀下列短文,從下面每小題的A、B、C、D四個選項(xiàng)中選出最佳選項(xiàng)。 All people need to sleep. Sleeping is a restorative (恢復(fù)體力的) process that shapes better body functions and can improve the quality of your life. Not only is the quantity of sleep important, but also the quality of sleep. Your bedroom should be shaped to your taste and to allow you to sleep in a peaceful environment. One of the biggest mistakes people make in their sleep is to use their bedroom for activities other than sleep. If your bedroom is also used as a place for your life and work, you will probably have a poor sleep. Bedrooms should be designed and used for sleep mainly. TVs, computers and other things should not be in your bedroom at all if possible. The regular sleeping and waking times can help improve the quality of your sleep especially for those suffering from sleeplessness. Avoid hot food, caffeine, sugar and alcohol at least 4 to 6 hours before your sleep time. Develop a regular exercise programme. Proper exercise and healthy food will help improve sleeping quality. However, avoid exercising 2 hours before sleeping, since this may keep your body exciting and make sleeping more difficult. A pre-bedtime rule will help you focus on sleep. You can try meditation (沉思), reading or deep breathing and relaxation. Your bedtime rule should be yours. Do not worry about it fitting into a special style. Do what is the best for you. Things such as room temperature, noise and light levels and even your bed itself can have a lot of effect on the quality of sleep that you experience. Cut down the annoying noises and lights. You are in your bedroom to sleep and not be distracted (干擾) by environment. (1)We can learn from Paragraph 2 that ________. A . bedrooms should be used for more activities B . TVs and computers in bedrooms can help people sleep faster C . the bedroom should be a place where you can sleep peacefully D . your life and work can make your sleep poor (2)What kind of bedtime rule is best? A . A special style. B . Reading or deep breathing before sleeping. C . Be relaxed before bedtime. D . Do what is the best for you.
