You get anxious if there’s no wi-fi in the hotel or mobile phone signal up the mountain. You feel upset if your phone is getting low on power, and you secretly worry things will go wrong at work if you’re not there. All these can be called “always on” stress caused by smartphone addiction.
For some people, smartphones have liberated them from the nine-to-five work. Flexible working has given them more autonomy(自主權(quán)) in their working lives and enabled them to spend more time with their friends and families. For many others though, smartphones have become tyrants (暴君) in their pockets, never allowing them to turn them off, relax and recharge their batteries.
Pittsburgh-based developer Kevin Holesh was worried about how much he was ignoring his family and friends in favour of his iPhone. So he developed an app — Moment — to monitor his usage. The app enables users to see how much time they’re spending on the device and set up warnings if the usage limits are breached (突破). “Moment’s goal is to promote balance in your life,” his website explains. “Some time on your phone, some time off of it enjoying your loving family and friends around you.”
Dr Christine Grant, an occupational psychologist at Coventry University, said, “The effects of this ‘a(chǎn)lways on’ culture are that your mind is never resting, and you’re not giving your body time to recover, so you’re always stressed. And the more tired and stressed we get, the more mistakes we make. Physical and mental health can suffer.”
And as the number of connected smartphones is increasing, so is the amount of data. This is leading to a sort of decision paralysis (癱瘓) and is creating more stress in the workplace because people have to receive a broader range of data and communications which are often difficult to manage. “It actually makes it more difficult to make decisions and many do less because they’re controlled by it all and feel they can never escape the office,” said Dr Christine Grant.

33. Kevin Holesh developed Moment to __________.
A. research how people use their mobile phones B. help people control their use of mobile phones
C. make people better use mobile phones D. increase the fun of using mobile phones
34. What’s Dr Christine Grant’s attitude towards “always on” culture?
A. Confused. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Critical.
35. According to the last paragraph, a greater amount of data means __________.
A. we will become less productive B. we can make a decision more quickly
C. we will be equipped with more knowledge D. we can work more effectively

Whether in the workplace or on the football field, effective teamwork can produce amazing results. However, working successfully as a team is not as easy as it may seem.Effective teamwork certainly does not just happen automatically; it takes a great deal of hard work and compromise. There are a number of factors that must be in place to make a good team.
Effective leadership is one of the most important factors of good teamwork. The team's leader should possess the skills to create and preserve a positive working environment and motivate and inspire the team members to take a positive approach to work and be highly committed. An effective team leader will promote a high level of spirit and make them feel supported and valued.
Communication is a vital factor of all interpersonal relationship and especially that of a team.Team members must be able to articulate their feelings, express plans and goals, share ideas and see each other's opinions.
Conflicts will arise no matter how well a team functions together. The best way to deal with conflicts is to have some organized methods of handling conflicts.Team members should be able to voice their concerns without fear of offending others.Instead of avoiding conflict issues, a hands-on approach that settles them quickly is much better. It is often advised that the team leader sit with the conflicting parties and help work out their differences without taking sides and trying to remain objective if possible. The team leader must set a good example to create good teamwork. In order to keep team members positive and committed and motivated, the team leader himself needs to show these qualities. The team turns to the leader for support and guidance. So any negative words or behaviors on the leader's part can be disastrous.
Regardless of what type of work you are in, knowing how to effectively work on and with a team is going to be extremely important to your success and that of your team.

閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng)(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項(xiàng)。
Job sharing refers to the situation in which two people divide the responsibility of one full-
time job. The two people willingly act as part-time workers, enough hours between them to fulfill
the duties of a full-time worker. If they each work half the job, for example, they each receive 50
per cent of the job’s wages, its holidays and its other benefits.
Job sharing differs from conventional part-time work in that it occurs mainly in the more highly skilled and professional areas, which require higher levels of responsibility and employee commitment.
Job sharing should not be confused with the term work sharing, which refers to increasing the number of jobs by reducing the number of hours of each existing job, thus offering more positions to the growing number of unemployed people. Job sharing, by contrast, is not designed to address unemployment problems; its focus, rather, is to provide well-paid work for skilled workers and professionals who want more free time for other activities.
As would be expected, most job sharers are women. A survey carried out in 1988 by Britain’s Equal Opportunities Commission showed that 78 per cent of sharers were female, the majority of whom were between 20 and 40 years of age. Subsequent studies have come up with similar results. Many of these women were re-entering the job market after having had children, but they chose not to seek part-time work because it would have meant lower status. Job sharing also offered an acceptable shift back into full-time work after a long absence.
The necessity of close cooperation when sharing a job with another person makes the actual work quite different from conventional one-position jobs. However, to ensure a greater chance that the partnership will succeed, each person needs to know the strengths, weaknesses and preferences of his or her partner before applying for a position. Moreover, there must be a fair division of both routine tasks and interesting ones. In sum, for a position to be job-shared well, the two individuals must be well matched and must treat each other as equals.
5. In what way is work sharing different from job sharing?
A. Work sharing is aimed at creating more jobs.
B. Work sharing requires more working hours.?
C. Work sharing provides a more satisfactory salary.
D. Work sharing depends on the employer’s decision.
6. According to Paragraph 4, young mothers preferred job sharing to conventional part-time work
mainly because _________.
A. they were over ideal working ages
B. they sought higher social status
C. they had difficulty finding full-time jobs ???
D. they had to take care of both work and family
7. In job sharing the partners should __________.
? A. enjoy equal social status???????????????????? ?? B. have similar work experience
? C.??know each other very well ????????? ? ? D. keep in touch with each other?
8. The main purpose of the passage is to ___________.
A. discuss how to provide more jobs??? B. describe job sharing in general
C.?recommend job sharing to women D. compare job sharing with work sharing????

BEIJING, China (CNN) -- Chinese workers and army soldiers were racing to sweep snow-covered highways and unclog railway routes for millions of travelers trapped by cold weather. More than 67 million people have been affected by the weather and economic losses are expected to reach as much as $3 billion, Chinese officials say.
The snowstorms have damaged power lines, houses and farmland, causing fears of food and energy shortages. Twenty-four people have died and some 827,000 people have been evacuated in 14 different provinces, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said Monday.
In the past week, the snowstorms have hit the provinces in central, eastern and southern China.
"We've never seen such a cold weather lasting for such long a time," said Tang Shan, a man in his 70s in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province. "The last time we had one here was over 50 years ago, and not this bad."
The snow and sleet have paralyzed(使癱瘓)roads, railways and airports, leaving tens of millions of travelers marooned, officials say. Many of them are bound for home ahead of the traditional Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, which falls on February 7.
The Lunar New Year travel is China's busiest travel period of the year. But the cold weather is delaying travel plans. In the southern city of Guangzhou, as many as 500,000 train passengers had to stay in the station. About 100,000 packed the square in front of the train station while others found shelter in schools and other public buildings while waiting for their trains.
Chinese premier Wen Jiabao has ordered urgent measures to unclog the transport jam and ensure a steady supply of food and energy.
“Let’s unite as one to fight against the disaster,” he said in an emergency meeting.“Let’s ensure that the people enjoy the Spring Festival.”
But more terrible weather is expected. On Monday China’s Weather Station issued a rare“red alert”warning of more serious snowstorms in the coming days. If so, the number of trapped travelers will surely increase.
